Dunmore Corners District Plan

Dunmore, PA
The goal of this project was to reimagine and revitalize the Dunmore Corners District along sections of Blakely and Drinker Streets into a more vibrant, pedestrian-friendly, and economically resilient corridor that better serves residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

The transformation focuses on enhancing the visual character, safety, and walkability of the district through strategic infrastructure and streetscape improvements. As shown in the before-and-after images, the existing streetscape — previously dominated by wide vehicle lanes, minimal greenery, and a lack of pedestrian amenities — will be replaced with an inviting environment featuring widened sidewalks, new street trees, decorative lighting, public art, and clearer crosswalks. These changes aim to slow traffic, improve accessibility, and foster a stronger sense of place.

The preliminary concept plan shows redesigned intersections, added greenery, and updated circulation patterns to support both vehicle and pedestrian traffic while encouraging foot traffic to local businesses. This forward-thinking approach strengthens the commercial core of Dunmore while maintaining its neighborhood character, ultimately creating a destination where community identity and economic vitality can thrive.

Equally important, the plan emphasizes fostering a renewed sense of community pride and reconnecting neighborhoods on either side of South Blakely Street. By transforming the corridor into a more inclusive, attractive, and walkable space, the project bridges what has long been a physical and psychological divide. These improvements are intended to unify residents, support small businesses, and create a shared civic space that reflects the values and aspirations of the greater Dunmore community.
