Keystone College Miller Library Renovation Concept

La Plume, PA
The goal of this project was to reimagine the Miller Library at Keystone College as a vibrant, collaborative Learning Commons, an inspiring academic and social hub to support modern modes of learning and foster a deeper sense of community.

The renovation transforms the time-worn, traditional library into a dynamic environment that encourages discovery, interaction, and connection, crucial to attracting and retaining students who value both innovation and belonging.

The design introduces a clear central axis aligned with the main entry that draws visitors in and establishes a visual connection to the Woodland Campus beyond. This central spine acts as an organizing armature, guiding movement naturally through the space while anchoring the library’s various zones for study, collaboration, tutoring, research, and art.

The open, light-filled entry sequence enhances wayfinding and provides a welcoming first impression that reflects the spirit of the college: inviting, supportive, and forward-thinking.

The design balances transparency and intimacy, offering both lively gathering zones and quiet study nooks to accommodate diverse student needs. The use of color, natural light, and branded environmental graphics reinforces the college’s identity and mission throughout the space.
